When we interviewed Ojos de Brujo and asked them about their song "Tiempo de Solea" it took them quite awhile to explain what the title meant...they finally settled on "Sad Time of Injustice." The reason for the difficulty? Solea is one of the main song forms that make up the repertoire of Flamenco, and for any flamenco musician, the mention calls up associations that are difficult to put into words. Possibly, the Solea is a song of lament, a rumination on dreams shattered, love unrequited - and justice denied. At any rate "Tiempo de Solea" is a brilliant video/animation, and one hardly need understand Spanish to get its message.
